Red-Tail Day |
The new owner of Blue Bottle Coffee Shop, Tom Green, has welcomed Red-tail Conservancy to enjoy our third fun day at his café in downtown Muncie. In fact, Tom is a long-time supporter of RTC.
On the first Thursday in March, RTC staff and board members will work the counter and tables, taking orders and serving their delicious drinks and food items. It will be a great time to learn the latest news about land conservation in east-central Indiana. The Blue Bottle is located at 206 W. Walnut in downtown Muncie. See you at the Blue Bottle, Thursday March 6. |

Garlic Mustard Pull |
This has become a delightful opportunity to celebrate our successful efforts at eradicating GM from our Henry County state nature preserve. When RTC first became involved in the process of dedicating this magnificent woods to the state nature preserve system, there was a heavy infestation of this aggressive non-native species throughout the perimeter.
After many volunteer hours of pulling and removing these plants from the woods, last year’s morning in the woods was truly rewarding. We found GM only in two small areas. The native spring wildflowers had returned to areas once overrun with GM. Most of the morning was spent hiking and enjoying the splendor of one of ECI’s highest quality hardwood forest.
Please plan to join us this year. A walk in Stout Woods State Nature Preserve is always an awe-inspiring experience. It’s located one mile south of Sulfur Springs; look for the sign on the east side of the road.

Wildflower Celebration |
Our fourth annual Wildflower Celebration promises to be another enjoyable gathering of land conservation folks and nature lovers at this very special woods in Randolph county. This year for the first time, attendees will be provided a program with a check-list of wildflowers to be viewed. Help with plant identification and answers to questions will be provided by expert tour guides.
Plenty of off-road parking is available for this Sunday afternoon gathering at Yuhas Woods. Feel free to bring cameras and binoculars to our living museum. There will be plenty of opportunities to view birds, as well as the wide array of spring wildflowers. |

RTC Birdathon |
RTC’s Birdathon will enjoy a new format this year, modeled after the Earlham Birdathon. The numerous teams will still reach out to family, colleagues, and friends for as many pledges based on the number of bird species identified during the event. But the team leaders will then compile one bird list that includes all the species identified by all the teams. This sets up a cooperative, total team effort, that more people can enjoy. We will also expand the time available to spot birds to include Friday as well as Saturday.
This fun event has provided a sizable portion of RTC’s annual budget for the last few years. So rally your team, and plan to spend some quality time in the field of your choice identifying birds for land conservation.
