Any Field of Your Choice

RTC Birdathon |
This year marks a return to the
team competition format. This means we will form teams of two or three
people, who, after accumulating as many pledges as possible, will hit the
fields fast and heavy to count as many bird species as possible. That
is, if you want to take home the trophy. We've had as many as 150
species counted in one day, so there's quite a challenge for the avid
birder. Some of us obtain lots of pledges and enjoy a leisurely day
strolling in the fields raising money the fun way...counting nature's most
beautiful critters.
This fun event has provided a sizable portion of RTC’s annual budget for the last few years. So rally your team and plan to spend some quality time in the field of your choice identifying birds for land conservation. |

Stout Woods Garlic Mustard Harvest |
This has become a delightful opportunity to celebrate our successful efforts at eradicating GM from our Henry County state nature preserve. When RTC first became involved in the process of dedicating this magnificent woods to the state nature preserve system, there was a heavy infestation of this aggressive non-native species throughout the perimeter.
In many of the areas once dominated by garlic mustard, we now enjoy healthy communities
of native wildflowers.
Last year, RTC volunteers found a reinvigorated stand of garlic mustard
along the perimeter, but took to the task of significantly reducing those
pesky plants. We know eradicating garlic mustard is a long-term effort.
Regardless of the amount of work to be done, this event makes for a most
enjoyable day in one of ECI's finest hardwood forests.
Please plan to join us this year. A walk in Stout Woods State Nature Preserve is always an awe-inspiring experience. It’s located one mile south of Sulfur Springs; look for the sign on the east side of the road.
