A Brush with Nature Traveling Storywalk @ Red-tail Nature Preserve

March 30 - April 4

In celebration of National Reading Month in March, Red-tail Land Conservancy is bringing a “A Brush with Nature” pop-up storywalk to a nature preserve near you. This all-ages picture and poetry book will travel to four different Red-tail nature preserves throughout the month. “A Brush with Nature” is a delightful story that follows a red-tail hawk as she soars over the land through the seasons, inspired by the forests, prairies and wetlands Red-tail protects with stunning paintings from local artists.

The free outdoor pop-up exhibit is open to visit anytime dawn to dusk in each of the four different nature preserves. See below for the tour schedule.

What is a storywalk?

A storywalk is a way for families to lay the groundwork for reading comprehension while also reaping the health benefits of outdoor recreation. The colorful paintings from the Union City Plein Air Painters Group and poem on each page written by local author Laurie Lunsford are transformed into reading stations posted along a trail. After families have walked the path and read each station, they will have spent about half an hour in nature as well as completed an entire book. There are more trails in each nature preserve to explore before or after.

Red-tail reminds visitors to enjoy the exhibit using responsible recreation practices: stand at least 6ft from other trail-goers, wear a mask at trailheads, and return later if the parking lot is full.

This storywalk is generously sponsored by Sursa Griner & O’Donovan of Raymond James and Associates, Inc.
